Today’s Perspective

Ever since the Texas Education Association(TEA) took over Houston ISD, there have been all kinds of untruths associated with the reason why they took over the district. The latest twist comes from an appeals court that ruled the TEA can release the 2024 school accountability ratings after a lower court had blocked the release of the ratings. It took lawsuits filed by school districts challenging the TEA's implementation of the rating system that had been revised. This entire disaster for public school districts in Texas has a lot to bring to light from the TEA,

What's interesting in this case is that the appeals court had to do the same for 2023 scores back in April . . . . A state appeals court has ruled the Texas Education Agency can release its 2024 ratings of the state’s school districts, overturning a previous ruling in a legal battle that has stretched nearly two years. Several Texas school districts had sued against the release of last year's accountability scores over concerns about education officials rolling out an automated computer system to grade the state’s standardized tests. Read more

Two days before the Camp Mystic's deadly flood, inspectors cleared the camp's emergency plans, but it seems staff members and counselors failed to follow the procedures . . . . Texas inspectors signed off on Camp Mystic’s emergency planning just two days before catastrophic flooding killed more than two dozen people at the all-girls Christian summer camp, most of them children. The Department of State Health Services released records Tuesday showing the camp complied with a host of state regulations regarding “procedures to be implemented in case of a disaster.” Among them: instructing campers what to do if they need to evacuate and assigning specific duties to each staff member and counselor. Read more

In what’s callled an ambitious agenda for the special session, Governor Greg Abbott has included the Hill Country flooding to the list of other priorities that include redistrictricting, THC, and other priorities that Republicans ignored during the regular session . . . . Gov. Greg Abbott on Wednesday unveiled a jam-packed agenda for the upcoming special legislative session, calling on lawmakers to redraw Texas’ congressional maps and address several unfinished conservative priorities from earlier this year. The governor, who controls the agenda for overtime legislative sessions, also included four items related to the deadly Hill Country floods over the July Fourth weekend, directing legislators to look at flood warning systems, emergency communications, natural disaster preparation, and relief funding for impacted areas. Read more

Parents are not supposed to bury their children, but one mother did and that loss devastated her, and almost at the same time of losing her son, her other son faced charges of assault and later, manslaughter, but the case quickly fell apart . . . .

For most people, burying a child is the ultimate heartbreak—a wound that never truly heals. But for Addie Heyliger, that grief was compounded by a second tragedy that tested her faith, drained her spirit, and ultimately became a powerful testament to a mother's unshakeable love. Addie’s 21-year-old son, Alex, was fatally shot last August while attending a pool party in Houston. Just as she was laying Alex to rest, Heyliger found herself in a courtroom, fighting for the future of her other son, Milton. Read more

President Donald Trump has signed, sealed and will deliver 12 letters to 12 countries on Monday with the sentiment, the countries can take it or leave it,  but in reality, it doesn’t make a difference if the countries take it or leave it, Americans will continue to cover the costs of the tariffs, and even more . . . . Remember when the kid on the playground finally stood up to the bully who kept stealing his lunch money? The whole school watched in awe as the tables turned. For decades, America has been that kid who kept giving away lunch money to countries around the world through bad trade deals. Global trade has been a one-way street for too long. Other countries slap huge taxes on American goods while freely selling their products in our stores. Past presidents smiled politely, nodded, and signed more unfair deals that hurt American workers. Read more

A Texas Perspective is designed to be informative, historical, and educational, reflecting the ever-evolving political cultures in the country that no longer prioritize voters' interests. We have become a country that no longer knows where it came from, and as such, we're embarking upon that journey again without knowing it.
