An Educational Newsletter

Good morning,

James Brown once sang a song that stated; 'I don't want nobody to give me nothing, just open the door and I'll get it myself.' Those words of inspiration enabled many to pursue training or higher education, which was what was required for all to succeed. Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion(DEI) wasn't a consideration. It was all about having the door open to opportunity, and believe it or not, it worked to perfection, even in trying times.

Back during those trying times, DEI wasn’t even a consideration.

Even with a college education, we knew that the door wasn't an elevator that went from the first floor to the top floor, and we accepted that because we were taught, that everything, regardless of what, started with a foundation which was the first floor, and in order to get to the top floor, you had to work your way up.

There were plenty of companies that worked with community leaders in order to advance the plight of minorities. Even during segregation, there was diversity, inclusion, and some equality. Obtaining all three was just a matter of waking up in the morning and starting your journey into your future.

After the Civil Rights Movement and integration, many experienced DEI and were embarking on careers that took them out of inner-city communities, and into middle-class communities, regardless of whether it was a trade or higher education.

DEI today reflects a framework used by organizations to promote fair treatment and full participation of all people, particularly those historically underrepresented or facing discrimination.

DEI initiatives sought to create environments where everyone feels valued, respected, and has equal opportunities to succeed,’ but then liberals sought to put their signature on the initiative and that's when everything good about the program went bad, causing it to be rolled back, or eliminated in some instances by companies and institutions for several reasons that included arguments over the effectiveness of the program that is now coupled with backlash from conservative groups, legal challenges by liberals, and concerns over potential discrimination or worst in the workplace.

What was supposedly developed was a system of reverse discrimination.

The backlash is supposedly based on the Supreme Court’s decision against affirmation action; policies and practices designed to address past and present discrimination by actively promoting the inclusion of underrepresented groups, particularly in areas like education and employment. It aims to create equal opportunities and increase diversity by taking proactive measures to counteract the effects of systemic bias,’ which again, supposedly prompted bashing and boycotts of companies who participated in the initiative on the belief that the companies were hiring unqualified candidates.

Even though conservative groups instituted the initiative, they are now voicing criticism of the program because it supposedly now, promotes reverse discrimination and has become more and more divisive because of reverse discrimination, which is what liberals decided was best for the program in order for it to fail.

There have been legal challenges to the program based on the merit-based argument of merit-based hiring and promotion, which leads to unqualified individuals being hired or promoted, and as a result, companies are supposedly concerned about potential legal challenges, reputational damage, or financial penalties.

President Donald Trump got this party started with executive orders that restricted DEI programs in the federal government and the military.

I can somewhat see the effects of DEI in the military, but not on a racial basis. Racial inequalities in the military would have to be the results of the racial makeup of the unit's leadership, and even in that case, the military thrives on saving lives during combat, and preferences would increase casualties of war due to poor or unqualified leadership.

That would be an insult to every branch of military service and completely wipe out patriotism.

On the other hand, I can see the practice within the rank and file of the federal government, and it doesn't necessarily hinge on the racial makeup of those hired to fulfill an obligation. While Trump's executive orders were intended for the federal government, he, himself has failed the program. His appointment choices are favors based on campaign contributions and loyalty that represent inclusion, but not diversity, or equality.

Take the case of Elon Musk, who was given the task of cutting government waste, and while he did, he terminated a lot of qualified people that Trump replaced with unqualified people.

I can't see a corporation or company hiring somebody unqualified to fill the position. I don't think a company would intentionally sabotage its profits with the risk of reaching out to the unqualified.

In the fast food industry, those hiring practices don't exist, yet they are targeted for hiring someone who can't speak English, or use a computer-generated order and pay system.

Those jobs are at best minimum wage for American workers, but not so much for immigrants, and that represents the company's bottom line, not DEI.

Targets and Walmart are also targeted for racial identifications and with each company, if you are hired, you are not going to be hired based on racial identity, or in the top spectrum of management. You are going to stop at the bottom of the scale and work your way up to the top but within the stores. Not in the corporate offices.

The only people protesting and blasting these companies are liberals, who never really understand what it is they are protesting, or objecting to. They just join the movements to create dysfunctional outcomes, and that is completely out of boredom in their lives.

That’s not a reality to punish corporations and companies for filling needs.
